DANIEL ALEXANDER is an award-winning director and BAFTA Connect filmmaker based in Birmingham, UK, with a passion for directing television, narrative film, and commercials. His work has taken him around the world, with internationally successful projects to his name. He currently produces and directs work for platforms and agencies including the BBC, BFI, WARNER BROS, and the official film for the COMMONWEALTH GAMES HANDOVER CEREMONY.
DANIEL is a member of the region's industry screen body, 'CREATE CENTRAL,' alongside other industry leaders throughout the region. He has also recently been made an Associate Artist of the REP theatre. As well as a television and film director, DANIEL is an accomplished cinematographer with over a decade of televised credits, including directing and producing an exclusive show for BBC One and shooting entire series for ITV.
His experience includes narrative film, commercial, music videos, television, and documentary productions with a commercial track record in editing and color grading too. He has additionally developed a range of professional tools now widely used within the film industry, notably CINEPRE, which helps filmmakers achieve cinematic color grades in their work. DANIEL ALEXANDER is the creative producer and curator of the region's leading Black film development program, BACK IN, which has commissioned over eighteen filmmakers from diverse backgrounds.
He has partnered with the BBC, the BFI, and PUNCH to launch national BACK IN screening campaigns.
A qualified SEN worker, in addition to his career as a professional creative, DANIEL ALEXANDER is committed to social engagement and artist development. As well as BACK IN, he regularly delivers community workshops for emerging artists, "hard-to-reach," and excluded young people from a variety of backgrounds.
During the pandemic, Daniel Launched The Midlands Film Archive, an online platform that is home to original films created by Midlands-based filmmakers. This has grown to become the 'go-to' website for films in the Midlands, including BAFTA-winning productions.
